Troubleshoot domain DNS

Most domain connection problems come from DNS records being missing, saved on the wrong host, pointed to the old provider, or still propagating.

What this guide helps you do

  • Check the DNS record Faster expects.
  • Compare registrar records against the requested root, www, or subdomain setup.
  • Know what to do while DNS is pending.

Before you start

  • Know the domain or subdomain you are connecting.
  • Open the registrar DNS settings in another tab.
  • Copy the DNS record from Faster rather than relying on memory.

Do it manually

  1. Open Settings and go to Domains.
  2. Click Manage or DNS Setup on the pending domain.
  3. Confirm whether you are connecting root, www, or a subdomain.
  4. At the registrar, check the host/name and value of the required A record.
  5. Remove conflicting old records only after confirming they are no longer needed.
  6. Wait for propagation and retest the domain and SSL status.

When a redirect will not forward

If DNS and SSL look correct but an alternate domain still does not forward, review the Redirects section in Domains and confirm the source and destination domains are correct. Add a domain redirect.

Ask Faster AI

  • Help me troubleshoot this DNS setup. I will paste the domain and the non-secret DNS values shown by my registrar.
  • Explain the difference between root, www, and subdomain DNS for this setup.
  • Create a checklist for verifying DNS before I contact my registrar.

Review before saving or publishing

  • Do not paste registrar passwords, recovery codes, or private account details into chat.
  • Be careful before deleting records used for email, verification, or another live service.
  • Document any DNS change date and owner.

Common issues and fixes

  • If the host is wrong, update it to the root, www, or subdomain value Faster expects.
  • If the value points to the old provider, replace it with the Faster-provided value.
  • If the registrar rewrites host names, use its preview to confirm the final full record.

Custom domain setup

For common DNS mistakes such as wrong host values, old provider records, and email record confusion, read the custom domain article. Connect a Custom Domain Without the DNS Headache.

Placeholder media

  • Screenshot placeholder: add an annotated screenshot of troubleshoot domain dns with customer names, email addresses, private domains, DNS values, amounts, internal notes, and unpublished content blurred.
  • Video placeholder: add a short walkthrough that starts from the relevant Faster workspace area, shows the manual path, then shows how to ask Faster AI and review the result before saving, publishing, sending, or applying work.
