Set a primary domain

Product media placeholder

Replace this area with a screenshot or short walkthrough video during the media sweep.

The primary domain is the URL customers should use and the URL your site settings, navigation, redirects, and analytics should consistently point toward.

What this guide helps you do

  • Decide which connected domain is the main customer-facing URL.
  • Keep alternate domains redirected to the primary domain.
  • Use the primary domain in campaigns, SEO, forms, and support materials.

Before you start

  • Connect and verify the domain first.
  • Know whether the business prefers root domain, www, or a subdomain.
  • Check existing ads, emails, printed materials, and backlinks before changing the primary URL.

Do it manually

  1. Open Settings and go to Domains.
  2. Review connected domains and the current live site domain.
  3. Choose the domain customers should use.
  4. Add redirects for alternate domains when they should forward to the primary domain.
  5. Update navigation, campaign links, email footers, and forms to use the primary domain.
  6. Check analytics and Search Console property selection after the change.

Redirect alternate domains

After the primary domain is clear, use the Redirects section on the Domains page for old domains, alternate spellings, and campaign domains that should forward to the primary site. Add a domain redirect.

Ask Faster AI

  • Help me decide which connected domain should be primary and what links need updating.
  • Create a checklist for changing the primary website domain safely.
  • Review these campaign and navigation links for old-domain references.

Review before saving or publishing

  • Avoid switching primary domains during an active launch unless necessary.
  • Check SSL and redirects on both root and www versions.
  • Notify owners of ads, email signatures, and printed collateral when the domain changes.

Common issues and fixes

  • If customers land on the wrong domain, add or repair redirects.
  • If analytics splits traffic, update property selection and campaign links.
  • If Search Console data is missing, connect the property for the primary domain.

Custom domain setup

Connected workflows

Placeholder media

  • Screenshot placeholder: add an annotated screenshot of set a primary domain with customer names, email addresses, private domains, DNS values, amounts, internal notes, and unpublished content blurred.
  • Video placeholder: add a short walkthrough that starts from the relevant Faster workspace area, shows the manual path, then shows how to ask Faster AI and review the result before saving, publishing, sending, or applying work.

Use it in daily operations

  • Write down which workspace setting changed, who approved it, and which public page, sender, integration, role, or analytics view should be checked afterward.
  • When a setting affects customers, emails, payments, domains, or public URLs, test the visible workflow before treating the configuration as done.
  • Ask Faster AI to prepare the review checklist, but keep credentials, payment details, and sensitive customer data out of prompts and screenshots.
