A custom domain makes your site easier for customers to trust and remember. Connect the domain only after you confirm the site is ready for public visitors.

What this guide helps you do

  • Choose a Faster subdomain, registered domain, or external domain.
  • Add required DNS records for root, www, or subdomain use.
  • Confirm the site is live after DNS and SSL finish.

Before you start

  • Have the website ready enough for public visitors.
  • Know whether you are connecting a root domain, www domain, or subdomain.
  • Have access to the registrar DNS settings for external domains.

Do it manually

  1. Open Settings and go to Domains.
  2. Click Connect Site.
  3. Choose an existing registered domain, the Faster subdomain, or an external domain you own.
  4. If using an external domain, enter the domain and choose whether it is a subdomain.
  5. Add the DNS records shown in Faster at your registrar.
  6. Return to Faster, complete the connection, and check status until the domain is active.

Ask Faster AI

  • Walk me through connecting a custom domain and tell me what information you need from me.
  • Create a DNS checklist for connecting example.com and www.example.com.
  • Help me decide whether to use a root domain, www, or a subdomain for this site.

Review before saving or publishing

  • Do not send registrar passwords, one-time codes, or private DNS account access in chat.
  • Check the exact spelling of the domain before saving.
  • Confirm old site, email, and subdomain records will not be broken by DNS changes.

Common issues and fixes

  • If the domain stays pending, check the A record host and value at the registrar.
  • If www does not work, confirm whether you chose the www option and added the correct record.
  • If the old site still appears, DNS may be cached or pointed to the old provider.

Website launch checklist

For when to connect the custom domain during a launch and what should be checked first, read the website launch checklist. The Website Launch Checklist: From Blank Page to Live in a Day.

Multilingual website planning

For how domain, subdomain, and language-path choices affect a multilingual site rollout, read the multilingual website article. Taking Your Website Multilingual (Without Rebuilding It).

Custom domain setup

For the plain-language mental model behind root domains, www, DNS records, and SSL, read the custom domain article. Connect a Custom Domain Without the DNS Headache.

Placeholder media

  • Screenshot placeholder: add an annotated screenshot of connect a custom domain with customer names, email addresses, private domains, DNS values, amounts, internal notes, and unpublished content blurred.
  • Video placeholder: add a short walkthrough that starts from the relevant Faster workspace area, shows the manual path, then shows how to ask Faster AI and review the result before saving, publishing, sending, or applying work.
